When you travel in a Class B motorhome, it always seems like there’s something else you would really like to bring… if only you could find the room. So I hacked apart our back wall looking for more storage. I found some, but not exactly what I had hoped for.
I’m not the first person to cut into this particular wall (our RV is a Winnebago Travato 59G). And I don’t know that it would have been on my radar if I had not seen others do it. But those wall cutting pioneers didn’t leave me a set of blueprints.
If they HAD left me blueprints, I would have seen that the wall wasn’t deep enough to store what I wanted to.
But then I wouldn’t have made this video.
And I wouldn’t have gotten to take a jigsaw and chop out a hole in a wall.
And Stef might not have gotten to take along her GoSun Solar Cooker.
And the GoSun Solar Cooker makes Stef happy…
So maybe in the end, it was worth it.

It was pretty random. I just kept cutting until I was comfortable with how far I had gone.
The biggest limitation of this box is that it’s not terribly deep.
Next time I’m out there with a tape measure, I’ll check.
Nice job Jim! But I just can’t believe you just hacked into that wall. I under stand it was wasted space. I think you had a plan for the GoSun all along. But how are you adjusting to it being stored with out the box. I am not sure I could allow that.
Something like that I would have to store in the box.
The Go Sun was really Stef’s idea. I was kind of bummed by the space issue, and she was trying to put it to its best use.
Go Sun makes a carrying bag that we should have soon. That’s what the cooker will travel in. But for right now… you guessed it… it’s in its box. 🙂
OOPS! I should have viewed your big old metal box vid BEFORE the back panel project. The box appears to have inherited all the formerly hanging items. I’ve been toying with building such a box and hanging it from the bottom where the generator used to be. Access is the question. Also considered adding a second freshwater tank there. Love the aluminum box you had made, The newer Travato bike rack does not permit space to attach such an item.
I had thought about a floor hatch for some generator storage, but since we usually have bicycles above that spot, it wouldn’t be very useful.
But if you attempt the “hole in the floor” option, I’d be curious to see.
Heck… I’d probably even help you.

the gack you used to have hanging on that back panel, under the dinette?
Where can I locate an outside storage box as shown under your bike rack?
I had it made. But I’m considering placing a bulk order if I can find enough interested people.

wow, quite peculiar that Winnebago doesn’t do something to utilize this space! either with storage or perhaps extending the bathroom area. 4″ can make all the difference in the world with a Class B!
Also, the German in me goes into a rage every time I have to deal with Winnebago wiring… does the factory only stock white & yellow wire or do they just not care that we’re living in a civilization here? 😉
It took me a little while to get used to the yellow. 🙂

So you went easy and slow and you came up with a place where the bride can give her GOSun color cooker a place to go! You da man!!! Like my Grand pa would always say… ” Happy wife…a happy life ” !
Thank you for finding a place with more usable space which keeps them happy and us in the house! It’s getting a little tight sharing quarters with the pooch and the cat! Job well done…again sir and still taking one for the team!

Yes – we have a bag on the way that will keep the GoSun quiet. Right now, it’s traveling in it’s original box.
We’ve got some other accessories stored on the top shelf. We’ll see what happens there over time.
